You want long-lasting eyebrows that frame your face and complete your look, but it’s not as easy as drawing on a pair of arches and calling it a day. This eyebrow tutorial will ensure that your brows complement your face and your eye makeup, look groomed but not too perfect and last all day long.
How to do eyebrow makeup
Long-lasting eyebrows are three simple steps away.
- Tint them.
To give your brows a good foundation, start off by temporarily tinting them with gel. Apply it directly from the tube or—for more precise application—use a brow brush and swipe the product into your brow hairs with light strokes. The colour should last a couple of days, through workouts, rain and sleep—which means you’ll only have to reapply every two or three mornings.
- Fill them.
Use a fine-tipped brow pencil to perfect the shape of your eyebrows, whether that means filling in sparse patches with light, feathery strokes, elongating the tail of each brow or sharpening your arch. Once you’ve finished, brush them through with a spoolie brush to blend the colour and create a natural finish.
To determine your ideal brow shape, all you need is a straight edge. Take a ruler (or even your eyebrow pencil) and hold it vertically against your face, with one side running along the inner corner of your eye. That’s where your eyebrow should start. Next, look straight into a mirror and hold your ruler from the edge of your nose and over your pupil. Where the ruler hits your brow is the most flattering place for your arch. Finally, for the tail of your brow, hold a ruler along the side of your nose to the outer corner or your eye. Where the ruler falls along your brow is where your eyebrow should end (or extend to, if you have naturally short brows).
- Trace them.
For an extra-clean look, trace along the edges of your eyebrows with a concealer that matches your skin tone and then blend outward with your fingertips. This extra step will make your arches appear more defined. Add a bit of highlighter to your browbone as well to catch the light and give your makeup that finishing touch.
